Health Careers
Since the early 1970's Hurley Medical Center, has given high school students ages 15-18 and in grades 10-12, an opportunity to explore the vast field of Health Careers as hospital volunteers. A commitment of at least four hours a week for one semester is required to enroll in the program. The Genesee County Medical Society Alliance, awards certificates to students donating a minimum of thirty hours and a special gift is given to the student with the largest number of volunteer hours for the year.
Debi Peters, Director of Volunteer Services reports that over 100 students annually donate their time to the program. Registration is held twice during the school year. Schools are notified with information regarding program requirements and the opportunity for students to become hospital youth volunteers through the Alliance's Health Career program. Spaces are filled quickly, and students are advised to follow instructions on the enrollment process.
The Alliance is forever greatful to Hurley Medical Center and Debi Peters for their partnership in providing area high school students the opportunity to explore the exciting field of Health Careers.
